Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th January – The platform lift is unavailable today and tomorrow at the front of the Hall. The main Hall lift (that accesses all floors) is still available via the West Entrance at the lakeside of the Hall.

The Formal Gardens are now open as normal, along with the remainder of the Park, Grounds & Hall. Wollaton Park is closed to the public until 1pm on Tuesday 20th January and Tuesday 10th February 2026 for essential maintenance.

Invasions, settlements and kingdoms: Why did the Vikings come to Britain?

In this session:

  • Understand the derivation of Nordic names
  • Two time-travelling children discuss clothes worn at the time
  • Decipher runes and map-out where in Britain they lived
  • Create a brooch to take home
  • Take part in a Viking funeral
  • Handle and draw artefacts including bones, jewellery, coins, pottery, bone utensils, metal and armour

Duration: 1.5 hours | 10.30am–12pm or 1pm–2.30pm

Cost per session: £10 per head includes gallery access, lunchroom and bag storage
