In this session:
You will meet some of Wollaton’s magnificent trees, learn to identify them and take a closer look at their leaves, flowers, bark and seeds as well as the animal life that lives on and around them. Fun practical science activities including measuring trees, comparing leaf shapes and bark patterns and finding out what woodlice like! You’ll see species of trees whose ancestors lived at the same time as dinosaurs and relatives of the tallest and oldest trees in the world.
Curriculum Links:
English: Increase vocabulary, speaking & listening.
Geography: Collect data through fieldwork. Interpret maps. Use simple compass directions and locational and directional language to describe the location of features and routes on a map, use aerial photographs to recognise landmarks.
Maths: Practical measurement.
Science: hypothesise, observe, use equipment, perform simple tests, identify and classify, use observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions, gather and recording data. Identify and name a variety of common plants, including trees, identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees. Identify and name a variety of common animals, identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, observe changes across the seasons, identify and describe habitats. Find out about and describe the basic needs of animals.
Duration: 1.5 hours | 10.30am -12noon or 1pm – 2.30pm
