Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th January – The platform lift is unavailable today and tomorrow at the front of the Hall. The main Hall lift (that accesses all floors) is still available via the West Entrance at the lakeside of the Hall.

The Formal Gardens are now open as normal, along with the remainder of the Park, Grounds & Hall. Wollaton Park is closed to the public until 1pm on Tuesday 20th January and Tuesday 10th February 2026 for essential maintenance.

Science: Research and discuss the different kinds of things found in fossils

History: Study the lives of significant people in the past-Mary Anning

In this session:

  • Meet Mary Anning, the remarkable Victorian fossil collector from Lyme Regis. She tells of her greatest find-the first fossil Ichthyosaur which she discovered when she was only 12 years old!
  • Help Mary identify her fossils and enter a world of strange sea creatures, dinosaurs and marine reptiles
  • Discover how fossils were formed millions of years ago
  • Examine some wonderful specimens from our handling collection and create a timeline to find out how creatures today have evolved

When: All year

Session times 10.30-12 or 1-2.30

Cost per session: £10 per head includes gallery access, lunchroom and bag storage
