Get outdoors, learn and use skills that help to manage our habitats for wildlife, and meet new friends.
Our excellent team of volunteers help maintain and nurture our parks and gardens, assist with our various group task days and share their love of Wollaton with our visitors. Working in a team with staff and other volunteers, you will help us maintain our heritage and green spaces such as assisting with basic tasks such as planting, pruning, weeding, clearing conservation area etc around our park and formal gardens. You’ll also likely be approached by visitors who will want to ask questions about the park and gardens or are looking for general gardening tips.
No experience needed | No need to book (unless your are a group of 4 and more) | Come along when you can | All tools provided | Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Wednesday Formal Gardens
Put those green fingers to use in our formal gardens and join us in tending to our beautiful formal beds. Tasks include light weeding, edging, planting etc along with chatting with our visitors about the gardens. There’s also opportunity to help with tasks such as bench painting and caring for the historic Camellia house. Weekly from 10am -12 noon.
No need to book- just head on up to the formal gardens and speak to a gardener!
Conservation Thursdays
These are currently on hold untill further notice.
Get stuck in with various conservation tasks around the park such as caring for our wildlife habitats, fencing maintenance, clearing pathways, lake work, tree planting etc.
Every Thursday, 9.30am am till around 12.30pm. The meeting point is the red phonebox that is next to the carpark and ice-cream van. No need to book (unless you are a large group of 5 or more). Just turn up with some motivation and enthusiasm for a few hours of physical work!

Saturday Task Days
Assist with various tasks around the park. Tasks include caring for our wildlife habitats, fencing maintenance, clearing pathways, lake work, tree planting etc.
Upcoming activities include clearing debris from the lake and Ha-ha, chestnut fencing repairs, litter picking in conservation areas, habitat and woodland maintenance and Rhododendron pruning. The meeting point is the red phonebox that is next to the carpark and ice-cream van at 10am. Everyone will then walk towards the working area together.

Litter Picking Days
Come along and join us for our monthly litter pick as we help keep Wollaton Park clean for our visitors and wildlife. We can provide litter pickers and gloves.
Sturdy footwear advised as we will be walking round the park and covering areas that are uneven.
The last Saturday of every month, 11am-12pm, The meeting is the Red Phone Box near the carpark and ice-cream van.
- Please wear clothes and shoes suitable for gardening and the weather
- We will provide tools and training but do bring a water bottle to rehydrate!
- No experience required and tasks can be suited to your skills and abilities
- You must be 16 and over or come with parental supervision
- No need to book ahead – just turn up ready to get involved and make a different around your park, however if you are a large group we would appreciate being informed ahead of time!
